Powertrain Calibration Propulsion Systems
Content
The course provides students with a profound knowledge about the calibration of mobile propulsion systems. The development process of the system’s control units is focused and the basic structure of these is explained. The different steps in the calibration process will be addressed by means of the main topics “Base Calibration”, “Drivability”, “Emission Calibration” and “On-Board Diagnostics (OBD)”. Typical tasks within these areas will be identified and deepened with explicit practical examples. The challenges and special features of individual drive concepts are differentiated, so that students gain fundamental insights into conventional combustion engines as well as - under the aspect of electrification - into innovative hybrid and alternative powertrains.
In parallel, the typical methods and tools for calibration tasks are explained. In addition to conventional test bench setups, Engine- (EiL), Hardware- (HiL) or Model-in-the-loop (MiL) approaches, which support the process of virtual calibration in a partially simulative environment and promote the shift from the road to the test bench, are addressed. Furthermore, basics on related topics such as Design of Experiments (DoE), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning are presented.
The course is offered for students of RWTH Aachen and FH Aachen.
Topics
The following topics are dealt with:
- Development process of vehicle propulsion systems
